GERTIE
My Gertie Girl
Almost 4 years ago a feisty little girl came into our lives. A sweet blind baby, someone had tossed out on a busy street to fend for herself. Luckily, she was saved and sent to foster care where we were the luckiest people in the world to have had her in our lives. Being blind never stopped her from doing everything the others did. Most of the time you would never know she was blind. She was a real inspiration to us as well as to all who met her. The pain we feel in losing her will ease but our love and memories, of a wonderful little girl, will always be with us. You are now running free of pain with sister Sunshine and brother Buddy. Rest my beautiful girl. We miss you.
Love Always
Mom, Daddy and Gidget
Sonny Boy(Woody)
I was adopted by a very big family, all pets. My given name is Woody. I came from Alabama and Memphis. Mom calls me Sonny Boy and I like it.
I like all the new things about my life. I have 3 cat sisters and 2 dog brothers. We play in our big safe yard. People come to visit with us, but we also travel to visit others. I love Granny’s. She pets us and serves cookies.
Do you know what snow is? It’s white and cold. It’s no fun to play in, but I got to wear my new sweater!
I don’t hear so well, but Mom has taught me signals. She stays with me to help and my brothers help too.
I love my home, my family, and my Mom. I know they have loved me. Sometimes it’s hard to be deaf, but I would hate to know I wasn’t loved.
I’m in heaven now. I wish all of my family lots of love and great big Sonny Boy kisses!

SPIKE
Here's the pic of Spike taken last October at the Blessing of the Animals at our church. All of us miss him terribly. It was so much fun to see his personality emerge after we adopted him from AADR.
Every dog deserves a chance for a happy forever home. Thanks for allowing us to give Spike that chance.

ALI
(6/18/05 – 5/2/11)
You were almost three when we were lucky to be your forever family. With you and Dad, it was love at first sight when he found you on the AADR web sight. For you and me, it was love at first bite, as Diane said,” You bite out of fright”. It was Memorial Day weekend 2008; when we drove to Richmond, Virginia and met Diane in a gas station parking lot. You went from being Penny Lynn to our Ali, the sweet little girl from Alabama, my “baby alligator”. You loved your brother Bru and even your cousin Wally; for it was them who taught you how your new life with us would be, even though Wally showed you how to lift your leg to pee. You filled our hearts with joy and laughter and we were looking forward to our happily ever after. Your time with us came to an end to quick. We tried everything when you got sick.
There are many balloons coming your way in honor of your 6 th Birthday. On the end you will see your lime green ball that you would always bring to Dad and me. Ready and waiting at the Rainbow Bridge to play ball again. The true “Southern Girl” we found you to be, as you loved watermelon, grits and my coffee. Ali you were prefect in everyway. Cute and petite from your bald little belly to your three legged run. You made everyday fun from morning till night, how you loved to play, you would be there with your ball for us to throw & throw & throw, for you had so much energy. When it was time for bed you knew your special place was between Dad and me. I miss your kisses and snuggling on my lap for you will always be our sweet baby girl, my “Green Alligator” and our best friend. Ali, the day we lost you our hearts broke in two. Know you will always be loved and never forgotten. For three short years we got to be a family.
Love, Mom, Dad & Bru
Thank you Diane and the All American Dachshund Rescue for the support and the adoption of Ali, adopted as Penny Lynn. She brought so much love and happiness to our family.
Maggie aka Miss Magnolia
Maggie came into our home and our lives on December 15, 2009, and we designated that as her official birthday so we could keep track of passing time. She was an energetic, affectionate, and vibrant addition to our family. Maggie was a strong willed yet loving newcomer who soon became our dog, and we were equally accepted as her people. She had a few issues that we had to be on the alert for, but then so do a lot of people we know. As long time Dachshund owners we didn't view that as a negative, just a fact of life. Maggie was a wonderful little girl who brought much happiness to us, and we like to think that we did the same for her. She needed a family where she would be the center of attention and with us she was exactly that. She was kind of hyper energetic when she came to us, so it was very gratifying to see her relax and become increasingly mellow as she acclimated to her new home. This photo, with her perched in our bay window, reflects Maggie waiting for one of us to come home. She would jump up onto the sill to wait and watch for us. We like it because even though the detail is indistinct, it is nevertheless Maggie as we knew her. Sadly we lost her to kidney disease December 20th of last year, a bare year after she came into our lives. Ironically, we got several dachshund themed Christmas gifts this year, including a doormat with Maggie's name on it. We continue to display it proudly.
