Happy Tales

Every one of these Dachshunds has been rescued by an angel...

Harley's Brave Journey   Harley's Story is a great inspiration to AADR because it shows that no matter how desperate the situation, saving one life makes the ultimate difference. DeeAnn, Harley's foster mom, has included her personal account with Harley's amazing story and where he is now.Harley was found homeless and sick. He only had a 50% chance of survival. Now he is living a life of true happiness and contentment. Read More...

Bloo.....WI

He is just the sweetest, most wonderful little boy! He is happy and healthy, and so full of life. He was so scared when we picked him up, though. For the drive home, I put him in a small bed on my lap, but he immediately crawled under my arm, and just hid there. He was shaking for a while, but that did stop. He didn't move for 4 1/2 hours. We just talked to him and petted him the whole way home. When we finally got home, he perked up and was very curious about his new surroundings. We just let him take his time and explore. He is adjusting just beautifully. We couldn't have received a more perfect dog for us if we had custom-ordered him. My husband and I are so grateful to All American for assisting us with this. Don't know if you know the story, but we had lost our previous boy (who was also a rescue) to complications of old age. We were so heartbroken, but this little guy is certainly mending those broken hearts. This past weekend, he started doing the cutest, gosh darn thing . . . every night after dinner, we cuddle up on the couch to watch some TV before going to bed. He crawls right up on my chest and will just sit there looking at me while I pet him and talk to him. Then, he lays his head down and rolls over for some belly rubs which he, of course, gets

Kruger.....VA

Wrigley (formerly Kruger) is doing great. Knock on wood, I think we've mastered the house training and are moving on to better leash behavior. He lunges and barks at everyone that approaches when he's on leash, but I think we can get that issue solved with training. He is a sweetheart and is settling in with the neighbors and their dogs very well. Thanks for all you and All American Dachshund have done!

Charlie number 11.....MD

He is doing very well. His chip has been registered to me and he had his first vet visit on Sunday and checked out beautifully.
He seems to be very attached to me and is quickly figuring out the routine. He is eager to please and has lots of energy. He is very fearful and nervous when we are taking our walks, but settles down with reassurance. He does not trust strangers or large blow-up Halloween decorations. He knows where his house is and loves it when we get home from our walks. During the week, we walk about 2 miles a day and 3 miles on the weekend. He has figured out the houses in the neighborhood where he can score treats. I got a gobble stopper to put in his bowl when he eats because he is such an aggressive eater. He would be happy to eat as much as he can, but he is figuring out that he can’t score extra food off of me.
I am teaching him that he has to wait to be invited onto the chair with me and that he is not to jump down on his own (I worry about back issues). I do not allow him to do stairs and he seems okay with that. He is learning to give me his paw.
He still would be happier to sleep with me at night instead of in the kitchen, but my bed is too high and I want him to know how to comfort himself when he has to stay with my mom when I go away on vacation.
He loves snuggles and is the first dachshund I have ever had that does not have heart failure when asked to go out in the rain.
He is quite bonded to me and he is a fabulous dog. He will be even better once he feels more secure.
Thanks for the opportunity to be his mom.

Linda

Winston number 5.....NH

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill is awesome. He is such a good little boy. He and his big brother are starting to play together. He's getting so much love, so many treats, and pretty much anything else that he wants. He can do no wrong in our eyes!
He is having some difficulty in house training but that will take some time. In the meantime, we use pee pads and belly bands.
He is eating extre mely well. We added some fresh food to his kibble, just like his big brother. He loves frozen yogurt in his Kong or peanut butter.
I was nervous about having another dog to take care of but it has turned out to be the best decision for all of us. We can't thank you enough for helping us find each other!

Socks.....TN

Winford (formerly Socks) is doing great!! He's been working very hard on his house training and has only had a few accidents in the house. He and his big sister Abigail are starting to play more and more each day.
